Artist Linda Meigs Visits Sunset Hills


Mrs. Meigs taught our students how to draw their very own Nebraska landscape with pastels, a chalk-like crayon well suited for sketching. This visit followed a field trip all students took in late September, where they visited two unique places in Nebraska’s history: the Mormon Trail Center at Historic Winter Quarters and the Florence Mill, which includes the Winter Quarters Mill Museum and ArtLoft Gallery. Parent/Teacher Conferences-NWEA Growth Reports and NeSA Student Parent Reports

During Parent/Teacher Conferences, parent(s) will receive his/her child’s Fall NWEA Measures of Academic Progress® (MAP®) Growth Report (Grades 3-8) and NeSA Student Report (Students who were in Grades 3-8 in the 2016/2017 school year.) Third – Ninth Grade Students to Take the Measures of Academic Progress® (MAP®) tests. During the 2017/2018 school year, your child will take tests called NWEA Measures of Academic Progress® (MAP®) Growth Tests.  This assessment tool is used to determine your child’s instructional level and to measure academic growth throughout the school year and from year-to-year in the areas of reading and math. Westside to Host Social Media Seminar for Parents

Please see the attached flyer, “Guide to Social Media Pitfalls for Families: that Westside Community Schools is hosting on Thursday night, August 24th, at the Westside High School Auditorium.  Time is 6:30-7:30 pm. Enrichment Clusters


This quarter students at Sunset Hills started enrichment classes, which will be held on Fridays from 2:30-3:15 until the end of the year.  Students were asked to choose topics of interest and then were placed in small groups based their interest. Classes are led by teachers, as well as parent volunteers.  Some examples of classes are:  games, book making, inventions, cooking, movie making, animals, science, coding and sports.   So far, we are off to…

Read Across America


All students and staff at Sunset Hills celebrated the birthday of Dr. Seuss and Read Across America week by dropping everything to read!


Sunset Hills Honors Veterans

Author Kate Klise Visits Sunset Hills


Children’s Author Kate Klise visited Sunset Hills last week! She talked to students about the writing process, as well as her journey to becoming an author. Kate also shared parts of her books! It is always a great experience for students to learn about writing from authors!


Sunset Hills Welcomes Artist Scott Blake


This week students at Sunset Hills had the opportunity to work with local artist Scott Blake. Blake uses pixelated images, barcodes and flip books to express his creativity.  For his work with the students, Blake took each child’s school picture and pixelated the image.  Students then used finger paints to fill in the image.  Thank you to the Sunset Hills Community Club and ArtPALS for this amazing opportunity!
