NEW Sunset Hills Opens to Students and Staff

Sunset Hills Elementary School has opened for Westside Community Schools students. The $13.8 million dollar project is on time and on budget, as promised to voters in 2015. NEW Snack List for 2018-2019 School Year

The Westside Safer & Healthier Foods Committee met this summer to revise the District Approved Snack List. This list provides dozens of choices for parents and families who wish to provide snacks and treats for their child and others in class or for school-related events. As a reminder: this list applies to all elementary schools. Secondary schools may bring in any commercially prepared items. No homemade food items or items including nuts are allowed. Click here…


State Assessment: Nebraska Student Centered Assessment System (NSCAS)

New NSCAS Summative assessment measures student performance – takes less time, reveals deeper information, and helps address learning roadblocks. This school year, the Nebraska Student-Centered Assessment System (NSCAS) Summative assessment replaces the Nebraska School Accountability (NeSA) tests. Sunset’s Young Artists on Display

Colorful paintings, whimsical 3-D pieces, and more turned Sunset Hills into an amazing art gallery during Art and Soup on February 23. The annual event, sponsored by our Community Club, combined an all-school art show with a soup/chili dinner. The students should be very proud of their wonderful artwork.  


Parent/Teacher Conferences-NWEA Growth Reports and NeSA Student Parent Reports

During Parent/Teacher Conferences, parent(s) will receive his/her child’s Fall NWEA Measures of Academic Progress® (MAP®) Growth Report (Grades 3-8) and NeSA Student Report (Students who were in Grades 3-8 in the 2016/2017 school year.) Third – Ninth Grade Students to Take the Measures of Academic Progress® (MAP®) tests. During the 2017/2018 school year, your child will take tests called NWEA Measures of Academic Progress® (MAP®) Growth Tests.  This assessment tool is used to determine your child’s instructional level and to measure academic growth throughout the school year and from year-to-year in the areas of reading and math. Enrichment Clusters

This quarter students at Sunset Hills started enrichment classes, which will be held on Fridays from 2:30-3:15 until the end of the year.  Students were asked to choose topics of interest and then were placed in small groups based their interest. Classes are led by teachers, as well as parent volunteers.  Some examples of classes are:  games, book making, inventions, cooking, movie making, animals, science, coding and sports.   So far, we are off to…

All students and staff at Sunset Hills celebrated the birthday of Dr. Seuss and Read Across America week by dropping everything to read!
