Sunset Hills Spelling Bee

On Tuesday, October 29th, students participated in the Sunset Hills Spelling Bee.  All students in grades 4-6 took a written test prior to this event to determine who would compete. Congratulations to Bakari O., our school winner and Sam S. who placed second in the competition. Thea Lierman was the third place speller.  Sam and Bakari will move on to the Westside School District Bee, which will be held on November 15th at the Westside…

Sunset Special Education Team Wins Royalty Cup!

Congratulations to our Special Education team, as they have brought the Westside Royalty Cup to Sunset Hills!  The Royalty Cup is awarded to staff members, departments or teams for their positivity, hard work and dedication to students!

Sunset Hills Honors Veterans

Author Kate Klise Visits Sunset Hills

Posted November 16, 2016 Children’s Author Kate Klise visited Sunset Hills last week! She talked to students about the writing process, as well as her journey to becoming an author. Kate also shared parts of her books! It is always a great experience for students to learn about writing from authors!


Sunset Hills Welcomes Artist Scott Blake

Posted October 27, 2016 This week students at Sunset Hills had the opportunity to work with local artist Scott Blake. Blake uses pixelated images, barcodes and flip books to express his creativity.  For his work with the students, Blake took each child’s school picture and pixelated the image.  Students then used finger paints to fill in the image.  Thank you to the Sunset Hills Community Club and ArtPALS for this amazing opportunity!


Sunset Celebrates Art & Soup

Posted June 8, 2016 This night featured an all school art show, a free soup/chili dinner and contest and many activities.  Students and families browsed art displays, got their faces painted and participated in numerous art-related activities.  This year was extra special, as Sunset alumni and visiting artist Neil Griess was in attendance.  Griess, a Sunset Hills alum and Westside graduate, previously worked with all students to create art based on their favorite memory from Sunset Hills.…


TACKarchitects Visits Sunset Hills

Posted June 8, 2016 Construction is set to begin next year.  The students were given a presentation on the job of  an architect and engineer.  They were also given a chance to give their opinion about the design of the new school.  What a neat opportunity for our students!
