Local Artist Sarah Rowe Visits Sunset Hills
Sarah Rowe, an Omaha artist, brought a nurturing vibe and creative energy to our students last week. She worked closely with each class as they created their own nature bundle — a combination of sticks, pine cones, grasses, and more. Plus, a good amount of paint, ribbon, yarn, fabric, and just plain fun.
According to Ms. Rowe, “The process of making nature bundles in art workshops is loosely inspired by Lakota medicine bundles. These bundles contain special objects that aid in personal growth and inspiration, and create deep connections within communities and the sacred earth.” She adds, “As an artist, I am constantly learning from my Lakota and Ponca heritage and I enjoy connecting with others through the spirit of storytelling and nature.” Her visit to our school was sponsored by the Community Club’s ArtPALS committee.
Thank you to the many parent volunteers who helped during our students’ art time with Ms. Rowe. The nature bundles and other art from Mrs. Jurgensen’s Art class will be on display at Art & Soup on Friday, February 28. Please look for a flier about Art & Soup to come home in backpacks soon.
